January Monthly Household Checklist

January Home ChecklistThis month we’re starting something new, a monthly checklist of items you can do around the house to keep up on your chores. These monthly reminders can keep your household and major systems running smoothly.

Since we’re in the Vancouver, WA  and Portland, Ore. areas, these tips will be geared toward homeowners in the Pacific Northwest. If you live in North Dakota you probably won’t be cleaning your garage in January.

In the future, we’ll start pairing these checklists with some special offers from us and from our subcontractors to help you keep up. Let’s get started …

January:

  • Clean the garage – In the Northwest, I think this is a great time to clean it out. It’s usually not too cold and if you’re like me holiday-related stuff has piled up like our national debt. Best of all, when Spring comes this will be one thing you won’t need to do before you dive into lawn and garden projects.
  • Clean your dryer vent – Check your dryer vent to make sure it is not clogged and clean it out.
  • Make a list of household repairs – I can’t remember the website where I read this, but it’s a great idea at this time of year. Go through the house and find all these little things that have been bugging you (loose drawer pulls, dripping faucets, burned out lightbulbs, etc.) and check everything room-to-room. Prioritize your list from urgent to nice-to-have. Don’t forget to ask your significant other – you’ll get extra points for this! The best part is unless it’s urgent, you don’t have to do all the things on the list right away. We’ve put that on the February list.
